‘Mortgage in Principle’ (MIP) is sometimes referred to as an ‘Agreement in Principle’, (AIP) or ‘Decision in Principle’ (DIP). This is a certificate issued at the start of the mortgage application process to provide an indication of how much you can borrow. This document is often requested by an estate agent as proof that you can afford to buy the property.
